“Puente del Inca” – Machu Picchu<\/p><\/div>\n

Due to the nationwide protests against Peruvian President Dina Boluarte and the Congress of the South American country continuing since December 7 of last year, local authorities and the operator of the Urubamba-Ollantaytambo<\/a>-Machu Picchu railroad line, Ferrocarril Trasandino S.A., have reacted: both the access to the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu<\/a>, including the various hiking trails in the Sacred Valley, and the rail line between Cusco<\/a> and Machu Picchu are closed until further notice. At the time of the closure (21.1.2023), 417 tourists were stranded in Aguas Calientes (the town located at the foot of Machu Picchu). More than 300 of them are foreign travelers, according to official data.<\/p>\n

In any case, the closure is to be maintained until a month after the end of the unrest respectively after the repair of the railroad line, which is damaged in parts, has been completed. Paid tickets to the sights of the Sacred Valley of the Incas as well as to the World Heritage Site of Machu Picchu will be refunded by the responsible authority Direcci\u00f3n Desconcentrada de Cultura (DDC) in Cusco.
